Matthew Wallman

Matt is an authentic and inclusive therapist who combines a client-cantered approach with evidence-based treatment. He has completed a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and a Graduate Diploma of Psychology from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Professional Psychology (with Distinction) from the University of Western Sydney.

Matt has a background in community mental health services in the lower North Shore area, spending recent years working in local adult and early intervention mental health services with adults and teens experiencing complex mental health challenges. Prior to this he worked across PTSD research projects at Royal North Shore Hospital while completing his undergraduate and Masters studies in psychology.

Whilst Matt is skilled at treating a range of conditions (including Anxiety, OCD, and Depression), he has a particular interest in clients who present with complex trauma. He has extensive experience providing individual therapy and group skills training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). In addition, Matt has an interest in treating eating disorders using the cognitive-behavioural intervention, CBT-E.

Matt supports a diverse client group with patience, curiosity and care. He prioritises development of trust and an experience of safety in engagement with his clients, and recognises how vital a secure therapeutic relationship is in his work.

Matt uses a range of therapeutic modalities to inform his clinical practice, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. The client is always at the centre of Matt’s clinical practice, and he will utilise these treatment strategies to support clients to make the changes they wish to make in their lives.

Prior to studying psychology, Matt enjoyed a successful career in media. He is now uniquely placed to identify and understand corporate workplace issues such as occupational stress and burnout.
